Born in 1956 at Mehunbare, Dist. Jalgaon, Maharashtra. He received his A T D from Government School of Art, Aurangabad. In 1978 he was awarded G D Art 1st Class from Sir J J School of Art, Mumbai and in 1979 was awarded Art Master Diploma in Art Education.
He has held several Solo shows and numerous Group Exhibitions. He was awarded Art Society of India Prize in 1976, 1986 and 1987. He received a Gold Medal at the Annual exhibition at Sir J J School of Art, Mumbai, and in 1993 the national Award by Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi to name a few.
Shamendu paints pebbles on a beach in the most fetching colours at times. Completely abstract and imaginary, his paintings however trick the viewer into thinking that this is the reality. Subtle shifts in the sky formation and colours results in a totally new experience for the viewer.
Shamendu worked at the Weavers Service Centre for a major part of his working life. He passed away in 2013.
